Rušiti zid(ov|in)e - Breaking walls
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The slogan of our youth exchange is “Rušiti zid(in|ov)e” – “Breaking walls”. This topic should on the one hand show that intercultural walls have to broken and challenged. On the other hand, it should also draw attention to the problems concerning members of minorities, such as discrimination and contempt. Walls can be seen as a symbol of fear. In our case, it is a fear of exposing oneself as being a part of a minority and being prepared to pass on the language and the culture to the next generation. Fear, however, cannot only be seen in connection with minorities but fear is currently rather a present topic. By establishing new walls due to the refugee crisis now 20 years after the fall of the Iron Curtain, the walls are still present in our minds. These walls, however, should be broken. Thus, our youth exchange should encourage our participants to get to know different cultures, to value them and finally also to recognise the value of their own identity. Another goal of our youth exchange is to demonstrate and promote methods of informal education. We want to encourage our participants to use these methods also in their minority organizations in order to get more attention for their minority. Additionally, we want to strengthen the network of minority organizations throughout Europe. The participants of our youth exchange are members of our partner minority organisations. We know these partner organisations very well because throughout the last years we have been cooperating with them and exchanging information. When selecting the participants for our youth exchange, it is important to guarantee a balance between different countries and gender. Our participants are all already active and involved in their youth minority organisations and are prepared to take on more responsibility in their associations and in their regions. Hence, our youth exchange provides a good possibility for our participants to educate themselves further and to develop their skills. Additionally, the participants can exchange ideas and views with people from different countries and can take this information back to their countries and introduce them to the society. We will offer 4 different workshops (“nano-tourism”, “layout/design”, „identity formation“, „on the trail of minority languages“), which will be held throughout our youth exchange. Furthermore, additional activities for the participants have also been organized, as for example a trip to Vienna or an exchange market, where every minority can present themselves. Besides the goals and outcomes that will be important for our participants and minorities, we also want to achieve an added value for the people living in Burgenland/Gradišće. Thus, with the help of our youth exchange we want to stress the special features of this region and also want to develop new ideas to increase the local tourism in Burgenland. Therefore, we want to contribute to the positive development of this region and want to emphasise the benefits of multilingualism and diversity. After this youth exchange, the participants should take the ideas to their countries and should also be able to achieve a similar success in their home region. The work but also the outcomes and results of our youth exchange will be presented via social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) but will also be published on our homepage. Additionally, we will also produce brochures, write media reports and a project report. Our 60 participants from several European countries should distribute our outcomes and new ideas in their countries and organisations. Through the network of our partner organisations about 200.000 young people will be reached and informed about our youth exchange.
