Our pupils are Europe of tomorrow. Our task as teachers is to help them grow to be conscious European citizens who participate in the cultural wealth as well as communicate with other Europeans in the respect of their culture and identity. Our project „The development of teachers’ and pupils’ linguistic competences – the key to Europe” took place from the 31st December 2014 to the 30th December 2015. The project implemented within POWER SE programme on the basis of Erasums+. OBJECTIVES - to provide greater understanding of cultural, social and linguistic diversity of Europe; - to promote respect and tolerance towards other cultures and nationalities; - to improve the development of social and civil competences; - to increase students’ motivation to learn English and enhance communication between students to become a conscious European citizen; - to instill willingness to improve language competences into young learners of primary school; - to enhance the participants’ language skills and methodological knowledge; - to improve the quality of teaching and learning languages; - to implement new teaching facilities and methods into teaching; - to enhance the use of ICT in teaching different subjects; - to support the professional development of teachers; - to raise the prestige and the status of the school in the local society; - to encourage communication in English; - to increase teachers’ motivation and their satisfaction with daily work. PARTICIPANTS Two primary school teachers from Zespol Oswiatowo-Wychowawczy w Strzale took part in the activities anticipated by the project. They were an English teacher and teacher of inclusive education who are in cooperation with the organisation Global Volunteers since years. They are constantly developing their professional qualifications and language skills as well as willing to share their experience with other teachers from our school. The implementation of new methods widely used abroad and technology into teaching and learning process gave European character to our school. COMPLETED ACTIVITIES While preparing to project implementation, the teachers studied documentation sent by the course provider and prepared a presentation about the school and region. Main activity included participation in teacher training course in Malta. The main objective of the course was to enhance the use of ICT in learning and teaching process. After completing the mobilities, teachers participating in the project provided: in-house teacher training, conducting theatre classes, workshops for students from primary school, open classes to teachers and parents, publishing the description and the effects of the project on the school website and local Internet news service. All the activities were evaluated to check their efficiency and estimate success of the project. OUTCOMES AND THE INFLUENCE OF THE PROJECT -participation in ICT training abroad; - familiarisation with the culture and traditions of other EU countries; - conducting theatrical and anguage workshops; - using the knowledge and materials from the course; - improvement of teachers’ language competences; - improvement of our students’ English language skills; - students’ performance in English for the whole school community; - writing lesson plans and conducting classes for teachers and parents, using materials and knowledge obtained during the course; - in-house teacher training covering modern teaching methods and techniques, comparing methods and learning systems in other countries; - effective use of ICT in the classroom; - sharing experience and ideas on the school website and in local newspapers. The positive influence of the project is visible all of the target groups. Teachers who participated in training in Malta proved being creative while implementing particular project activities, their attitude and an interesting way of teaching brings results. Students eagerly participated in suggested activities, they are motivated to further language learning. Other teachers declared their willing to take part in the next project. They have noticed the attitude, enthusiasm and satisfaction of the two teachers and actively participated in the in-house teacher training provided by them. Parents were open and eager to cooperate with teachers. The school gained comprehensive teachers using more innovative as well as effective methods and techniques during classes. It influenced on the quality of teaching and enrichment of teachers competence which definitely had positive impact on students’ language development as well as will led to their better learning results. LONG-TERM BENEFITS of the activities are going to be observed in the next coming years. Our school wants to set up a partnership project within Erasmus+ programme to start international exchange of students. Through visits in host countries, teachers will have the chance to compare various methods of teaching.
