ROUTEless?
Start date: Sep 1, 2010,

The project "ROUTEless?" is a participatory photo project in Denmark from youth to youth. The project activities will take place at Sjælsmark Asylum Center in DK involving up to 30 young asylum seekers from, among other places, Afghanistan, Iraq and Africa, who have arrived in Denmark without their parents. The project is initiated by DFUNK (The Danish Refugee Council's Youth Network). The overall theme of the photo workshop is DIVERSITY. Moreover, the project's participatory approach seeks to engage both the organisers and the young asylum seekers through working together in creating the project and hereby gaining an insight into each others lives. Hence, the purpose is to hand over the cameras to the young asylum seekers, so they can tell their own stories through pictures. The overall aim of the project is, thereby, to equip the young refugees with skills in photography and communication, and to give them a "voice" and to strengthen their self-confidence. The young people organising the project will get an understanding of the whole issue of unaccompanied young people seeking refuge in Europe. As an end result, a photo exhibition will be arranged displaying the pictures taken and chosen by the young asylum seekers. Additionally, the pictures will be published in a catalogue and on an interactive website. This is the first part (pilot phase 1) of the project as a national Youth in Action Initiative. The organisers hope that the project will continue as a larger European project with a second part (international phase 2) in 2011.
