Rock & Ride @ Boltik Baik is a youth mobility project which aims to involve a youth worker and four international youngsters to take part in a six months long (March – August, 2015) and two months long EVS (April - May, 2015) in the third biggest city of Latvia – Liepaja.Project is designed to have a creative, inter-cultural team spirit that would empower these young people to develop their practical and creative skills, that will enhance their work capacity, develop organizational and communication skills. Through this they can get a better possible return to their country a similar experience (if they are looking to find a creative work) and, hopefully, a motivation to develop local initiatives and participate in their local communities more actively. To achieve this, volunteers will be invited to work in a self-service bicycle workshop that is attended by local youth from very various backgrounds. They will also be empowered and supported to organize a self-made bicycle workshop for local youngsters, while learning how to work together, prioritize and how to best collaborate with each other and with several cultural organizations, local municipality and media. Long term volunteers will facilitate up-cycling workshops in different festivals around Latvia in the summer period. Participants will work to provide high visibility to all of the events and will add an inter-cultural learning dimension to the project itself.The project activities for volunteers consist of assisting in the self-service bicycle kitchen, realizing their own initiatives, preparing, realizing and evaluating a 5 days Do It Yourself (DIY) bicycle workshop with 20 participants from Liepaja city and region. Within this project the European volunteers will be trained for work with IT, medias, using photo and video cameras as well as editing video materials. They will prepare the posters of the project in order to make a call for participants in all the schools of Liepaja. They will prepare the space (cupola in the backyard of bicycle workhsop) with the tools, safety instructions, instructions for separation of the garbage as well as make lunch for the participants taking part in the bicycle workshop. During the summer period the long term volunteers will organize and facilitate up-cycling workshops in different festivals and events around Latvia.All together the project will involve 4 European volunteers, 1 international youth worker, 10 members of staff and 20 local young people (who will be directly involved in the participation of the program, also will be able to analyze the activities, project development and reached results). The visible results of the project will be: Do It Yourself bicycle workshop Boltik Baik, Freak Bike Parade around Liepaja, exhibition of the freakbikes made in the Boltik Baik event, short video tutorials about maintaining and fixing bicycles and a learning evaluation tool for youth workers and organizations.The project aims to empower volunteers to develop their practical and creative skills and empower them to return to their countries with gained experience, confidence and evidence about their skills. Project will also give participants possibility to learn the practical use of different methods of non-formal education. At the end of the project the participants will be supported to develop plans and new ideas for future. It is expected that after the project, also the involved youth worker will feel empowered and ready to develop similar initiatives in their home countries (and organizations they work for) thus increasing overall impact of the project.
