Réseau Européen des Associations d'Enseignants de Langues 2

The REAL2 project follows on from the REAL (Réseau européen des associationsd’enseignants de langues - European Network of Associations of Language Teachers)feasibility study carried out in 2006-2007. On the basis of the results of this study, thisproject aims to set up a federation of associations of language teachers. This federationwould involve both monolingual and multilingual associations and would cover the EU,EFTA and the countries participating in the LLP programme. The project will set up a three-year process (2009-2011) designed to prepare thearticles of association of the federation and to launch and promote it to the target public(associations, language teachers, stakeholders of the EU's language policy). To thisend, a web site will be set up, and an information letter and promotion documents sentout, and finally a number of seminars and events will be held throughout Europe. The federation’s role will be to link people responsible for European policies to fostermultilingualism on the ground. This will respond to five essential aims identified in thefeasibility study:1. Developing teaching skills through exchanges and shared projects atEuropean level;2. Developing European skills (increasing knowledge of the recommendations, tools and funding sources available at European level);3. Developing strategic skills between associations, particularly to ensure thatthey are passed on to young teachers;4. Improving the representation of language teachers with national and Europeanpolitical authorities;5. Defending cultural diversity and multilingualism, particularly for the mostendangered languages.
