Researcher's Night Denmark (RND)
Start date: Jun 1, 2009, End date: Dec 31, 2009 PROJECT  FINISHED

"The organisers behind Researchers’ Night Copenhagen 2007 and 2008, Danish Science Communication propose to include Denmark’s third largest city – Odense – in Researchers’ Night and to form a partnership with The Faculty of Science University of Southern Denmark. In the following the event will be called Researchers’ Night Denmark (RND). We are planning a new, very interesting concept to communicate science to a broad audience. Building on Danish Science Communication’s successful experiences with street science (stands with experiments in public places) in Researchers’ Night projects of previous years, we will try to encourage even more dialogue, thereby ensuring that we meet the objectives of the action stated in the PEOPLE work programme: “This action aims to bring the researchers closer to the public at large, so enhancing their role in the mainstream of society” The idea is to place a mini-lab of researchers in a transparent greenhouse in a public square in Copenhagen and Odense and have them conduct interactive live research projects for 36 hours, concluding on Friday night, September 25th, 2009. Collaboration with local high- schools and other relevant partners will add to the exhibition. The new and innovative approach, which should ensure even more dialogue and public attention, will use modern storytelling techniques to present the research and the various societal implications and scenarios in terms of ethics, technology development, economic growth and so on connected with a research project. The audience will be able to vote on different scenarios connected to the research, and the interactive website will allow a broader audience to vote as well. The events will conclude on Friday night with a political debate about among other things the results of the popular vote."
