Rehabilitation of land mine contaminated sites in the Drava-Danube area (De-mine HUHR)
Start date: Aug 31, 2011, End date: Oct 30, 2013 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project of rehabilitation of land mine contaminated sites in the Drava-Danube area aims at enhancing sustainable and attractive environment in the HU-HR border region. Creation of safe environment will set security pre-conditions for the development of more sustainable and naturally valuable environment in this border area. Within 24 months land mine contaminated sites on the Hungarian side will be surveyed, prioritized and partial demining operations will be performed accordingly. During the project the Hungarian Mine Informational Database (MID) containing the data on mine suspected areas and their priority sequence for demining is to be created based on the data collected during surveying. Land mine contaminated sites on the Croatian side of the border will be demined within an area of 1.56 km2. The cross-border  impact of this project will be best felt in the fact that mine danger will be removed from the border, which is the precondition for the realisation of numerous projects with cross-border character such as those connected with Natura 2000 and Corridor 5c sites.  Achievements: The project with the largest size of subsidy in this Programme is of great importance for the whole border area as it includes environmental intervention to remove mine-suspected areas from the border region, including territories protected under the NATURA 2000 network. The partners from the both sides co-operated in discovering the landmines left over in the area after the war confl ict in the 1990-s. The project reclaimed 1,56 km2 of minecontaminated / -suspected area on the Croatian side, and it also inspected and de-mined an 80 km long area along the border on the Hungarian side.
