Rehabilitation of cross-border connecting road between Bácsalmás-Bajmok (Bácsal-Bajmok)
Start date: Feb 28, 2013, End date: Aug 30, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

Direct object of the project is the rehabilitation of cross-border connecting road between Bácsalmás and Bajmok. The project closly connects to our planning project - HUSRB/0901/111/003 - which was implemented within the I. Call for Proposal of HU-SRB IPA CBC. On the Hungarian side Lead Partner plans to implement the following technical content: Building sheet-correction on the 5312. national road between 65+017-65+610 km section (593 m), and rehabilitation road between 64+384-65+017 km section and between 64+000-64+384 km section connecting to the sheet-correction. Length of rehabilitated road on the Hungarian side: 1017 m. On the Serbian side the following investment will be completed:The road system leading to the border crossing station Bajmok-Bácsalmás needs development on both sides of the border. In the frame of the current project on the Serbian side, the Project partner (PP1), the City of Subotica will implement rehabilitation of the road connecting the local community Bajmok (belonging to the Subotica City Administration) with the border crossing station, since the current road system does not have the necessary abrasive and other layers. These conditions make this road connection unsafe, and due to this problem traffic is slowed down, and only locals use this border crossing point making Horgos-Röszke and Kelebija-Tompa border-crossing stations overcrowded with 6 hours of waiting (in high season: weekends and holidays). By rehabilitation of 6000 m of road this road will be categorized as urban road with the speed limit of 80 km/h. Achievements: When neighbours want to become closer, they find a way to surpass physical obstacles. These obstacles can be, for example, a missing or ruined road. In this project the partners had two overall aims in mind: to strengthen the connection between Hungary and Serbia by brining two settlements, Bacsalmas and Bajmok, closer, and to facilitate faster border-crossing from one country to the other. The direct objective of this project was the rehabilitation of the cross-border connecting road between Bacsalmas and Bajmok. The project is closely connected to the previous planning project (HUSRB/0901/111/003) which was implemented within the 1st Call for Proposals of the Programme. At the time of publishing this Catalogue, the Lead Beneficiary is working on the following technical ventures: implementation of correction on national road no. 5312 in the section between 65+017 km and 65+610 km (593 m) and rehabilitation of the road in the section between 64+384 km and 65+017 km, and 64+000 km and 64+384 km, connected to the sheetcorrection activity. In Serbia the rehabilitation of the road connecting the local community of Bajmok with the Bajmok–Bacsalmas border crossing will be completed by spring 2015. Since the former road system did not have the necessary abrasive and other layers, the conditions on this road connection were unsafe, thus slowing down traffic. For these reasons, mostly locals used this border-crossing point. It was a huge problem, especially in peak seasons, in summer, at weekends, and around holidays, making the Horgos–Roszke and Kelebija-Tompa border crossings overcrowded. Due to the rehabilitation of this 6000-m-long road section, it will be categorised as an urban road with a speed limit of 80 km/h, allowing faster travel from one country to the other.
