Reference - Valuing and using skills development through volunteering as a pathway into employment
End date: Dec 24, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

By volunteering, people gain valuable experiences, develop many new skills and know how. However, usually skills that are gained through volunteering activities are not always sufficiently recognised or accredited. The skills development through volunteering could be utilized for improving the employability of people or for staff development, but this opportunity is scarcely used.Eight volunteer organisations from all around Europe formed a partnership to find a solution for this problem on national and European level. The overall aim of this partnership is to highlight the value of volunteering as a successful pathway for skills development and into employment. Partners will explore the existing methods used in participating countries for giving evidence of the skills development through volunteering (e.g. skills passes, reference letters, certificates, recommendations, PR). Furthermore, partners will investigate how these methods are recognised and accepted by employers. ogether partners will identify successful and good practices, which are valued by employers. The product of the partnership will be a guideline for NGOs working with volunteers on how to identify and document the skills, know how and expertise of their volunteers in a manner, which is understood, recognized and valued by local, national and European employers. The guideline, the recommendations, hands-on information and examples of good references will be published on a resource website for free use. The relevant information and documents will be available on national level and in the languages of the participating countries. Additionally an overview of the various national recommendations and a joint result with a European perspective will be available in English.
