Recreational and functional cross-border itineraries (IRFT - GRFN)
Start date: Aug 31, 2010, End date: Dec 30, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Belgian-French coastal area is densely populated and attracts a large number of tourists during the high season. An increasing number of residents and tourists use the soft transport networks. Today, the existingtrails and paths are not connected to each other. Cyclists, walkers and hikers are unable to continue their route when they get to the French-Belgian border. The aim of this project is to solve this problem. To open up the cross-border coastal area, new paths are created from west to east. A north-south route ensures a better connection between the coast and the hinterland. The partners thus improve road safety in the area, while avoiding dense tourist traffic, and contribute to the development of the recreational network for residents and tourists.
