RECOGNISING INTERNATIONAL QUALITY ASSURANCE ACTIVITY IN THE EUROPEAN HIGHER EDUCATION AREA
Start date: Oct 1, 2013,

The project aims to promote the current and future opportunities for internationalisation of quality assurance practices and procedures, as well as to inform public authorities, quality assurance agencies (QAAs), higher education instiutions (HEIs) and other key stakeholders about the current status-quo of the recognition of international QAAs.The project's objectives are:- to provide a comprehensive analysis of existing examples of countries allowing their HEIs to work with internationally active (e.g. all EQAR-registered) QAAs, - to analyse the rationale for QAAs to be internationally engaged, as well as why and to what extent HEIs make use of these opportunities, in order to disseminate the good practices at the European level and- to organise a Bologna Process official seminar gathering QAAs, HEIs and other stakeholder representatives from Europe and beyond in order to discuss the value of international activities, as well as the perceived opportunities and challenges of increasing them in the future. The project report will include a mapping of the legal frameworks allowing the use of internationally active (EQAR-registered) QAAs in EHEA countries, an analysis of their use by HEIs in different countries, as well as a qualitative analysis of the perceived relevance of being an EQAR registered agency for agencies wishing to operate internationally. These results will be useful for governments and stakeholders in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), in particular HEIs and QAAs. They will be able to build upon the good practice existing in the analysed countries, learn from the results of the analysis on the rationale for internationalising quality assurance activites and use the conclusions drawn to inform their policy debates.
