Ready,steady,work !
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

This mobility project in its essential part involves a two-week training in the Portuguese companies and hotels cooperating with Braga Mobility in Braga. The rationale for the selection of training for economics, hotel management and tourism is the fact that in our town there is a noticeable demand for economics graduates on one hand but not many work opportunities for hotel management and tourism students on the other hand. Moreover the economics / hotel management and tourism students have a limited ability to find professional internships in local companies. Both groups, the economics and the hotel management and tourism students have the biggest number of hours of English classes at school comparing with other groups- general English, professional one (English), plus additional extra classes. We are planning to engage 18 students into the project of technical economics and technical hotel management and tourism school. They will be selected on the basis of their marks obtained: at the end of the first term of the first class with economics vocational subjects and English/- at the end of the first term of the first and third class with hotel management and tourism vocational subjects as well with English. It will be a reward for high academic achievement, participation and involvement in the school work. The training in Braga is closely related to the content of the secondary school teaching program for economics / hotel management and matches students' level of technical knowledge. In the project we are going to teach students for example how to plan economic logistic/ hotel activities and develop projects/ how to respond to public inquiries and help customers/ hotel guests; define the issues of the project and its solution, use adequate terminology/ preparing hotel bills and invoices. In the first stage, students are introduced to a variety of business processes that take place in a company / hotel; then they learn about the future of economics and logistics, their trends and technologies. They will work in groups. Among the topics for economics students there following: the acquisition and improvement of personal and social skills, intercultural competence, broad professional competence in such fields as for example procedures for the establishment and organization of Portuguese companies, improving business operations, trading, enterprise; working with the storage departments; observing occurrences in workplace processes, logistics and marketing. The hotel management course will cover such fields and subjects as for example: receptionist-related and clerical tasks, responding to public inquiries and helping customers, creating databases for guests hosted, preparing billing and invoice information. These subjects and topics will certainly be met with great interest of our young people, because these students already have some knowledge to facilitate their understanding and knowledge of these issues in English language, which can only bring positive results. Objectives of the project is to give the students necessary knowledge and skills (at the end of the project) provided in the training program (training program attached) and to develop desirable attitudes and behavior. We assume that students will acquire and exchange experiences in the field of economics, logistics and warehousing / hotel management and tourism; the project will have a positive impact on the development of creativity, collaboration of students. Moreover we hope for improvement in terms of an agreement on the line: the students-teachers-parents and the students obtain satisfactory language skills needed for the communication in English. The project uses different ways of working. Initially, it will be a lecture, but in subsequent sessions, students will be required to work independently and in groups to perform assigned tasks. At the end of every week students will recapitulate their internships, followed on the forum to guarantee, that students not only will improve their language skills, but also the social ones.Long-term impact will bring many benefits to our students, such as a greater commitment to the school work and aspirations for further education, ability to compare European and national value; perception of the benefits of learning, active participation in school life, opportunities to travel abroad. In their future work, students will contacts with foreigners without any fear, prejudice or stereotypes. They will improve their personal qualities such as: self-confidence, self-esteem and tolerance. They will have increased motivation and creativity, social integration, European awareness and become an active citizen. The priority of our project is to motivate and reinforce students and teachers to permanent education in different fields throughout the life,to acquire and improve skills not only in the topic or subject area on which the project is focused, but also in teamwork, social relations and mobility.
