Re-Action
Start date: Nov 14, 2014, End date: Jun 12, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The training course “Re-Action” is made up of a collaboration between 10 NGOs representing Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Romania and Turkey (youth workers and youth with fewer opportunities). The project will be undertaken in Nicosia and will last six days in November 2014. The principle target of “Re-Action” is to underline the interrelation between Human Rights and Environmental issues, and to make clear that to the way for a more sustainable world, respect and active citizenship are crucial. In the 21st century ironically enough, Human Rights violations still exist and lead to several global issues. It seems that many people and organizations believe that these violations are results of a non sustainable use of natural resources occurring problems such as deforestation, global warming, over-exploitation of natural resources and toxic waste. These problems are causing critical consequences for the population in terms of threatening their fundamental rights (access to water, protection of local livelihoods and local identities, food scarcity caused from soil erosion etc). In addition, the rivalry for the control of strategic natural resources evolves the facts of migration, discrimination and ethnic tensions. No one could doubt that Human Rights violations are connected to the environmental matters. By undertaking this project, we aim to give the chance to young people and youth workers to become actively involved in human rights and environmental issues, through specific knowledge (such as European environmental policy and Human Rights threats), competences (eco-communication, awareness raising, democratic participation) and attitude (new consumptions, footprint calculation). The message that “PlanBe, Plan it, Be it” wants to pass is that the environment, people and Human rights are strongly connected, and by the Education for Sustainable Development they could coexist in a healthy way. Our intention is to follow up the international guidelines by training new youth leaders in active citizenship for a more sustainable development. This Training project will comprise several types of activities based on non formal education. Throughout presentations, practical tasks in group work, fieldtrips and meetings with local NGOs and governmental bodies, the participants will be equipped with the appropriate knowledge and skills on the topic. Association between ecology and the rapid technological and urban development, environment and human survival, economic growth and human rights in a global spectrum will be achieved. This will strengthen appreciation, respect, and acceptance raising awareness for the need of taking action, always within democratic borders, in order to accomplish coexistence of the two: Human Rights and Sustainable Development. Therefore, in order to strengthen the culture of active citizenship, during this project the participants will have the chance to experience simulations. Through the participation in a situation that is applied to the real world’s relative issues to the topic of the program, youngsters will take part in a decision making process facing obstacles and hesitations of reality. By the completion of the simulation candidates will recognize the complexity of the global society, reinforcing their willingness to get involved in the public life and fight for their beliefs. The desirable outcome of “Re-Action” training course will be to raise the conscious participation of young people in advocating a more global sustainable development by acting in their local background having as a weapon the Human Rights and the knowledge and skills they will have already gained through this project. PlanBe, Plan it, Be it desires to equip this group of people with the adequate skills encouraging them to get involve in matters that concern their community, their city, their country, Europe, the world.
