RDP - Réseau des Parcs (RDP)
Start date: Sep 30, 2004, End date: Dec 30, 2007 PROJECT  FINISHED

Mediterranean protected areas have specific characteristics resulting from usage by mankind. These make it urgent to look for synergies by creating a network of resources and skills. Know-how and techniques can be shared on the basis of empirical procedures and experimentation in the local context, and evaluated when applied in similar contexts. This sharing of know-how contributes to growth in local contexts and the resulting knowledge repository can be used via a web site, and subsequent forms of cooperation can be identified. Overall objective / Objectif général The general objective of the project is to establish a new form of dialogue on shared areas of environmental management through the creation of a network of protected natural areas on the Mediterranean, in order to contribute to the adoption of common strategies for sustainable cooperation. The topics chosen fall within a broader framework of land planning, the aim being to achieve cooperation and to search for common solutions for environmental matters. Expected results / Résultats attendus The results of the network can already be seen: a) increased efficiency of partners in shared areas of management through the analysis of the good practices adopted by others and the drawing up of case studies; b) increased efficiency of partners in shared areas of management, based on case studies, through the possibility of adopting new forms of cooperation on specific community-funded projects; c) assistance for growth in local contexts through the promotion of human resources with e-learning; d) increased visibility of protected areas as a result of communication through the network; e) convergence of local policies for protected areas in a more global and general approach.
