Rathfredagh Cheshire Home
Start date: Feb 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Rathfredagh Cheshire Home is a healthcare setting and home to twenty five people with disabilities. Our team comprises of over seventy employees that are each highly trained to support and provide person centred care. Volunteers of the EVS have demonstrated to be valuable to the project ‘Supporting Social Inclusion for People with Disabilities’ within our organisation as they have contributed to the service users’ psychological wellbeing when encouraging social interaction, conducting projects concerning sports, crafts, music, and teaching about different countries and cultures on an informal level. Volunteers will be learning about people with disabilities, minority groups and the challenges one encounters when having a disability. The main responsibilities of the volunteers will be within the activity department allocated in the main house. Activities are decided and organised in partnership with the service users, the Lifestyle Facilitator and the activity room staff. Volunteers will be actively involved and will be encouraged to contribute to the projects as much as they feel is reasonable. Another important aspect of the volunteers’ responsibilities is giving companionship to the service user when going to appointments such as to the GP, hospital and hairdresser. Furthermore they will accompany service users at social outings such as dinner dances, shopping, bowling and the cinema. Rathfredagh wishes to host volunteers for twelve months. Their accommodation will be in the town of Newcastle West which is approx. 6 km from our centre. Transport will be arranged by Rathfredagh and all food will be provided. They will be supported by a supervisor, two mentors and the team in Rathfredagh, especially those who work in the activity area.
