Rail Freight and Logistics Curriculum Development

RIFLE is a Curriculum Development project intended to develop Rail Freight and Logistics curricula and modules for a Master programme. More specifically, this project aims at developing Master Courses to be delivered in English language in the Universities of the the participating institutions as separate but shared programmes in a short term perspective. The curricula developed will smoothly lead to a joint degree MSc programme on rail freight and logistics in a long term perspective.The RIFLE project employs an innovative multi-disciplinary approach including a combination of methods such as state of the art surveys and reviews, collaborative learning with stakeholders, analysis of demand for rail and logistics higher education, modelling for optimizing curricula, collaborative approach for development of curricula, validation and exploitation of results, innovation through existing distance-/e-/blended learning methods utilizing ICT, implementation of the curricula developed into practice and dissemination activities at large.The RIFLE project includes innovation with elements of sustainable development by getting experts to rub shoulders and act outside their field because "rail freight and logistics" is a multidisciplinary field by nature. The RIFLE project aims to move students away from specialized academic training towards new computer systems, research-driven solutions and real-life problems using alternative ways of learning, which encourages creative thinking and has a positive effect on driving economic progress in society at large. The RIFLE project also promotes intensive collaboration between Academia and Industry. Nine Associated partners from the rail freight and logistics industry will be assisting the development of the RIFLE project and validate its products.RIFLE involves modern rail freight and logistics way of higher education in which students themselves are offered radically new international learning experiences and expertise.
