Qualitätssteigerung und Modulentwicklung für den Englischunterricht vor dem Hintergrund der zunehmenden Heterogenität der Schülerschaft
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

We want to focus our attention on the following question: How should English lessons be created so that our diverse student body can reflect itself in the teaching content? The British and Irish language institutes (arranged by "World Wide Qualification Sprach- und Studienreisen GmbH"), whose courses (Teachers' Refresher Course, Advanced Language and Methodology) will be attended by the project participants, have an excellent international reputation and will assist us in answering this question. As European citizens, we want to learn more about other countries and customs, and incorporate that knowledge in our curriculum to promote a European awareness in the students. Both the under and overachievers prepare themselves for different degrees and future options after school, but what they have in common is that they need English teachers who could present themselves as authentic language role models and are able to use the current and attractive methods and media to maintain a reasonable level of motivation and teaching quality. A profound knowledge of current national heritage aspects is essential. The teachers should use new media as a matter of course to create a setting with authentic language learning material. The five participating English teachers who are interested in “brushing up” their English, represent a broad section of the school staff. They teach classes in different grades (5-13) and audit the final exams. In addition to that they are responsible for different tasks at school such as: coordinating the afternoon classes or youth debates, connecting teacher, intercultural officer... We strive for a deepening of intercultural skills and want to get to know new motivation programs. Eventually the objective is to pass the acquired knowledge to the other colleagues at school, using the same methods and training we had ourselves. These experiences will be incorporated into the development of the newly introduced optional modules in class 9 and 10, which are supposed to prepare the students for their individual careers. The module development is still in early stages and needs fresh ideas and current pulses so that the modules can be implemented successfully, targeted and credible in the long term.
