Qualitätssicherung im Englischunterricht der Oberstufe (Klasse 10-12)
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Due to the fact that English is taught as the first foreign language at the Gymnasium am Krebsberg, it plays a particular role at our school. The importance of the acquisition of this world language and the intercultural knowledge around it is evidenced by numerous activities, such as the use of foreign language assistants, study trips of Year 9 students to England and our participation in the Cambridge Certificate program. The English lessons in the upper grades place subject-specifically challenging demands on the assigned teachers. A high quality of foreign language teaching plays a crucial role for the motivation of students and their successful performance in class tests and final exams like the Abitur. For us, quality assurance means that the educational standards of the conference of education ministers must be significant at the time we make decisions of how to design our English lessons. Just with the knowledge of how the different areas of competence, i.e. Speaking, Reading, Listening and Writing, should be taught in their methodological complexity and with an intercultural awareness, classroom theory can blend ideally with good practical teaching. Therefore, the participating teacher undertakes a further training course imparting both technical and methodological knowledge. The course is characterized by a variety of forms of practical as well as action oriented learning. The acquired skills contribute to motivating and targeted English classes. At the same time, the students' augmented expertise should not only be proven by good school grades, but also mirror their high proficiency in the English foreign language, which will offer them promising opportunities for their future studies and jobs.
