Puppet as a method and agent of inclusion
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The association of inclusive culture was founded with the purpose of carrying out humanitarian activities , education and promotion , and working to develop an inclusive culture , in this context, as well as concern for the exercise of the rights of children, adolescents and adults with special needs and children and adolescents with typical development. Several years of our close cooperation with various educational institutions has shown that the knowledge that students acquire in school is more successful if it is complementary to formal education and if it also contains an inclusion component. It turns out that the participation in international projects is the right way to achieve the objectives. We have also found that our methods and approaches to work are useful for all marginalized groups, including refugees. The project "Puppet as a method and an agent of inclusion" includes partners from partners from Turkey, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Italy, Romania, Croatia, Poland and Slovenia (latter being the host organisation). The project consists of two activities (training and youth exchanges), which complement the whole. The first activity (training course) will be held in autumn in Slovenia and will be attended by three youth workers from each participating country. The second activity (youth exchange) will take place next spring and it will be attended by a youth worker who had previously attended the training along with 4 young people (mainly young people with fewer opportunities) from each participating country.Training course is designed with the intent that youth workers, teachers and trainers gain additional knowledge and tools to work with individuals with fewer opportunities and other marginalized groups in the field of techniques and methods of working with the puppet. Training will be based on the methods of non-formal education, such as group discussions, presentations, games, role play and various situations using puppets and similar activities that encourage creativity and active participation. On the other hand it will also present the advantages of these methods, with an emphasis on the method of puppet for further use in partner organizations. The knowledge and experience acquired in the training course will be used in the months until the youth exchange for preparations and the actual implementation of the youth exchange. Puppet as a method becomes an agent of communication, work and the integration of marginalized groups (including refugees) in the wider environment and society. With the help of the puppet participants establish contact with marginalized groups, they learn to use puppets in interpersonal communication and communication with the rest of the population. Especially important is the latter form using puppets as a means, as it is inclusive form of communication between marginalized groups and the majority population and, consequently, their equivalent inclusion in society. We are driven by the wish to achieve inclusion - providing the youngsters who have been pushed to the edge of social life, with the chance to create something of their own, giving them the message of their own worth and value. "The doll as a method and means," therefore becomes one of the fundamental answers to the dilemmas of inclusion, which by definition gravitates to reply to a social issue finding a way to equal integration of all, irrespective of culture, education, race, gender, religion or form of handicap.
