Puhtia perusopetukseen kansainvälisyydestä
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The basic education in Huittinen consists of five primary schools, which are Lauttakylä, Sampu, Sallila, Loima and Suttila, and Pellonpuisto secondary school. Pellonpuisto school has some experience in international activities such as two Comenius-projects, international courses and excursions made by a few groups studying optional language courses. For the primary level, however, internationalization is something quite new. Thus the purpose of this KA1-project is, firstly, to strengthen the successful process of internationalization in Pellonpuisto school and secondly, to make internationalism a part of education also in the primary schools. When it comes to the primary schools of Huittinen, the main goal will be to support the language skills of the teachers and to give them a chance to get acquainted with schools and education in other European countries, with a special emphasis on the teaching methods in mathematics and foreign languages. As for Pellonpuisto school, KA1-project is hoped to bring about and boost new ideas for the planning of a new international course which will break boundaries between several subjects. Another goal is to improve the language skills of teachers other than language teachers, so that they would be able to use the foreign language in the classroom. For the teachers of foreign languages the aim is to update their knowledge of the language and culture of the target country, to observe different teaching methods and to search for new contacts with a potential new Erasmus+ KA2 -project in mind.Job shadowing and attending courses abroad are great opportunities for teachers to get a view of education and teaching in Europe, and this kind of experience they won't be able to get in Finland. Moreover, the colleagues will benefit as well, because the teachers who take part in this project are expected to share their experiences and the new ideas they have adopted with their colleagues. They will also encourage their colleagues to participate in upcoming international activities. The total number of staff working in basic education in Huittinen is 110, of whom 83 are teachers.
