PROYECTO PROTEO
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Adult Education Centre (CEPA Santa Cruz de Tenerife) has more than 1.600 students registered, figure which makes it the largest Adult Education Centre in the Canary Islands. The population it serves presents a high unemployment rate (over 30%) and a very low professional qualification rate.Employability reports indicate that in the coming years, service and hospitality industries will generate the best paid and the best quality employment. These sectors require staff with a secondary education degree and adequate English language and ICT skills. We have worked for years in bettering both skills in students. However, the challenge of meeting these new students’ demands turns out implementing the Erasmus + “PROTEUS” project to be an improvement opportunity that, in the medium term, will boost students’ employability thanks to the CEPA internationalization. To this end, we have developed a European Development Plan (PRD) that, based on internationalization, sets improvement goals focused on ICT skills and gradual transformation of the CEPA in a CLIL school. The PROTEUS project includes the training for 4 teachers in innovative ICT skills -still of limited use in Spain- and for other 4 in avant-garde linguistic teaching skills in English, in EU countries. These teachers, once received their training in a transnational context, will commit to train the rest of the teachers in the CEPA, and thus disseminate what they have learnt in order to facilitate the didactic and methodological improvements generalization and learning quality improvement. So that the objectives set in the PRD are realistic we have raised a highly participating project that has involved the entire school community: teachers, students and other participants of the School Board. The result of this process will be launched by the Erasmus + Project Revitalization Commission (DIPROER). The commission, formed by teachers, will undertake the task of ensuring the quality of all phases of the PROTEUS project, including its preparation and management. At the same time, it will ensure that the criteria of parity and transparency in the selection of teachers for the project are respected. The CEPA guarantees the continuity and sustainability of the PROTEUS project, as the final product will be improve the general teaching quality, due to the amelioration of the innovative use of ICT and the gradual incorporation of English in different subjects and areas. The DIPROER commission will evaluate the project through indicators linked to quality learning outcomes, strengthening internationalization and the impact generated by the PROTEUS project in participants and the CEPA itself. In order to reinforce the sustainability of the project, the CEPA will give broad visibility to the actions of the project, its transnational nature and its innovative aspects. The Regional Ministry of Education and Universities (Consejería de Educación y Universidades - CEU) ensures the broad impact of the project through the many resources for this purpose at its disposal: among others, the European Programs Office and “interschool” seminar, which integrates the adult education teaching staff. The CEPA has contact with different networks, as the Spanish Federation for Adult Education, the European Association for the Education of Adults, the European Civil Society Platform on Lifelong Learning and the Electronic Platform for Adult Learning in Europe. The synergies of CEPA and these networks will facilitate the dissemination, the impact improvement and the project visibility.
