Proyecto experimental sobre el desarrollo y la motivación escolar a través de CLIL
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Royal Decree 127 passed on 3 August 2012 which regulates plurilingual programmes in Secondary Education in the region of Valencia offers teachers the possibility of teaching non-linguistic curricular subjects through foreign languages. Following the aforesaid regulations, Turis Secondary School has started organising a CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) programme called Experimental Project on Development and School Motivation through CLIL. This programme is tailored to suit the real needs of the school and implies teaching the subjects of Mathematics and Techonology in English, and Physical Education in French for some students in year 8 (1 ESO). Therefore, there exists the need for those teachers involved in the teaching of those subjects (together with the coordinators) to expand their professional experience, communicative abilities and methodology in these foreign languages. This is the reason why the Staff Selection Commission requested the participation of their chosen partners so as to organize the formative activities with a view to improving the language and teaching skills of the candidates abroad. The improvement of such teaching aptitudes is considered to be necessary to develop the plurilingual curriculum of the school which includes the following objectives: -Improvement of participants’ key competences, linguistic compentence in foreign languages and skills for work. -Enhancement of methodological criteria and creativity to boost pupils understanding and motivation. -Development of intercultural awareness and international cooperation. -Exchanging experiences among teachers and learning from each other to improve foreign language teaching. -Dissemination of motivation techniques; intergenerational and intercultural understanding. -To foster the participation of all members of the educational community, reinforcing the link between education, innovation and research. -Use of ICT as part of a wider comprehensive education. -To foster the participation in the Project of all the school students, enhancing its integrating scope and the attractive character of the European higher education. -To guarantee further foreign language teaching among those students taking part in education programmes for pupils with special needs. Teachers should improve their learner engagement to support retention of students in educational contexts. This is the particular case of the pupils taking part in the so-called Professional Qualification Programmes. The present plurilingual project encourages the participation of those pupils through creative activities, fighting early school leaving and in so doing contributing to a better self-qualification and helping them attain equal opportunity in the long term. -Post-course dissemination of good language practice to other teachers at local and national level. It is undeniable that the present project poses a demanding personal challenge for the participants to overcome the existing language barrier, and the implementation of the plan means facilitating knowledge to students by means of innovation and intercultural awareness. The project that we enthusiastically defend relates to one of the five objectives for 2020 included in the ten-year strategy proposed by the European Commission, that of Education. As a result, our plan observes continuous assessment of both procedures and learning outcomes, trying to stimulate our pupils learning in terms of internationalization. Finally, it is the Staff Selection Commission, whose main objectives are the organization, supervision and management of the whole project, the entity in charge of the successful fulfillment of the academic courses abroad. It is also the responsible body for the dissemination of the conclusions, and it must guarantee the continuity of the project beyond its experimental stage.
