Start date: Oct 1, 2016, End date: Sep 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our school started a bilingual teaching project during the academic year 2013-14. In order to develop the project we have considered the need for the improvement of the linguistic competence of the teachers involved, as well as the upgrading of teaching methodologies and a specialized knowledge of the English speaking world, as regards the new challenges of bilingual education in our educational context, which includes specific topics related to Natural Science, Music, Social Science and their influence on education and the proper use of social networks and IT.By means of etwinning it is expected that our school will be paired with other schools Europe in order to collaboratively develop educational projects.. Our students will communicate using the Internet (for example, by e-mail or video conferencing) to collaborate, share and learn from each other. In that sense, as regards the continuous upgrading of our teachers´ linguistic competence and working methodologies, our school wishes to attend the following courses that will take place at the University of Cambridge at Homerton College in July 2016: 1) Content and Language Integrated Learning (Secondary School teachers)-This practical course explores the skills required for CLIL teachers, including approaches and materials appropriate to CLIL, principles underlying effective practice, and testing and assessment in CLIL contexts. An important aspect of the course is English language improvement and development of language awareness. 2) Contemporary English. This is a practical, active and interactive course that explores current trends and the evolution of the English language in the last decades, provides opportunities for language development and practice and presents practical ideas and techniques for teaching language. The expected outcome of the project in the short, medium and long term will be supervised during the Bilingual project coordination meetings, as well as the subsequent staff and heads of departments meetings in our school. It is expected that the knowledge acquired in the special subject seminars, the implementation of new methodologies and the improvement in the learning of the English language through specific topics related to Natural Science, Information Technology, Music and the influence of social problems in the world of education, will benefit the IES J.M. Blecua students, teachers, and the general educational environment as regards the development of bilingual education in our school. It is expected that the students in the short term will benefit from the teachers training courses and didactic experiences and will learn to use both English and Spanish as similar learning tools in a number of subjects . We also expect our students to feel greatly encouraged to take part in international projects that will strengthen their European citizenship.
