Start date: Nov 1, 2016, End date: Oct 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project is about in-service training of our school teachers and aims to highlight and promote elements of our cultural heritage through connecting the school with museums and archaeological sites. It consists of two training activities:The first includes lessons in a training institution in Sweden, in which participants will learn ways to creatively and effectively promote heritage in order to implement them in our own case. In particular, we expect to acquire modern technological tools to identify and promote cultural items, which open the school to society and link it with museums and archaeological sites. The experience and knowledge that the participating teachers will bring back, will be used to create a website dedicated to inform and promote our cultural heritage concerning Olympia. The second training activity takes place in Germany and includes intensive courses, which focus on ways of creative integration of educational games and other digital learning resources with a view to enhance the learning interest. Participants will learn about relevant methodological approaches, current trends on the internet and how these can be applied to the creation of similar websites. They will learn to create and integrate digital interactive and playful resources into the above website in order to transform learning into an attractive and interesting experience. After completing the training courses, participant teachers will use a web hosting service to create a website on behalf of our school. At this stage knowledge and experiences gained during the training will be surely used. The creation of this website we believe that will prove useful for our school extroversion, in connection with museums and archaeological sites, extending learning beyond the narrow borders of a classroom. The teachers who will participate in the educational activities, work permanently in our school, have certified knowledge of the working language (English), are ICT certified, show high interest in learning and incorporating new elements in school life. Three teachers of various subjects will participate in each activity, so that impact is maximized. Each activity will be held by a different training body.In order to ensure the success of training activities, both intermediate and final descriptive evaluation will be asked. After completing each activity, participants will give descriptive reports, in which benefits, knowledge and experiences acquired will be presented. These reports will be addressed to the head teacher and other school teachers and will form the basis for the whole evaluation of the project. Also, the website which will be built will be based on principles of heuristic evaluation for websites in order to achieve approved quality content and appearance.Acquired knowledge and experiences will be shared with other teaching staff, school advisors will be informed and so will the school supervisor and regional educational authorities. The school website will be enriched with material (photos, texts, educational material etc) produced during the training activities. The website created will incorporate material resulting from the above activities. Finally, there will be advertising in printed and electronic regional media about the activities and the creation of the website and a relevant newsletter will be sent to a mailing list of Greek and foreign recipients. We believe that, after the implementation of training activities, our school will be able to exploit knowledge and experience, in order to promote valuable components of the cultural heritage of our region by demonstrating greater openness. The experience obtained and the digital structures to be created can be used in other future activities.
