Promoting the idea of mutual self-education
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Nov 1, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The registered association Autodidaktische Initiative (ADI) will conduct the project 'Promoting the idea of mutual self-education' in the frame of the European Voluntary Service. Projects aim is to disseminate the concept of collective self-directed learning to a wider audience. The concept describes a non-formal process of education which is organized collectively and which is tailored to the needs and interests of the participants. It was developed by ADI and is currently being put to practice for almost a year. The project is planned for two volunteers. They will start off by getting to know the organization and its customs, as well as becoming an overview of the plethora of auto-didactic methods. The main mission of the volunteers will be to initiate a dialog about self-directed learning with the local residents, in order to map out their educational needs in the context of mutual self-education. For this purpose they will conduct simple interviews and polls, under the guidance of ADI members and their mentor. After that, the residents will be invited to the ADI to share their experiences according to the results of the research. Thus, we hope to motivate people to pursue studying and developing their interests, in a consistently manner, together in the symbiotic environment of the ADI. The conversations, interviews and other results of the collectively organized activities will be presented at an exhibition in the rooms of ADI as text, video and audio recordings for the public eye. Alternatively, a publication will be produced, to be distributed in schools, universities and libraries. We see our project as a social experiment for the sake of catalyzing a movement towards a truly all-inclusive educational landscape.
