Promoting Quality Assurance in Animal Welfare - Environment - Food Quality Interaction Studies Through Up-Grading e-Learning

With increasing public interest in the origin, production and quality of food for human consumption, this project addresses quality assurance in animal welfare and related food production/consumption and traces the food chain from the farm to the consumer. The project will develop new internet-based student courses on three core themes, namely, animal welfare, environmental impact of and on animals and food quality & safety. The project will facilitate an exchange of information on scientific progress and practice in these three core themes, with recent developments being brought directly into the teaching environment through internet-based learning packages. Courses will be developed by the project partners and launched on the project website after a period of testing and adjustment. Courses will be matched to users' training needs, and emphasis placed upon the quality of teaching products launched through the project website. Project partners will provide case study examples of current teaching practice and recent scientific findings in this field. Case studies will be compiled as a textbook and glossary for teachers and students and made available via the project website. The website will act as an interactive discussion platform on the core course subjects, will provide links to other related sites and will be key to project dissemination. Dissemination will target animal breeding associations, social partners and advisory/information services. Material will be made available in English and in the participating partner languages.
