Promoting participation through volunteerism in Water Governance and Gender Project
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Apr 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Future Pioneers for Empowering Communities’ Members in the Environmental and Educational Fields (FPEC) is a Jordan-based non-profit organization established in 2012. The origanization is specialized in empowering communities’ members to overcome poverty through improving their living conditions, building their capacities, raising the public awareness on key issues, and promoting small and medium-sized enterprises in educational, environmental, health, and economic and social fields with a special focus on women, youth and marginalized groups. Together with Allianssi Youth Exchanges in Finland we recruit a young volunteer to support our ‘Water Governance and Gender’ project activities during the period of 12 months in Amman, Jordan. This project aims at enhancing women’s participation in water management in the water sensitive communities of Balqa’a and Russifeh heavily impacted by the influx of Syrian refugees. It particularly aims at increasing community awareness on sustainable water management, improving women’s skills in water management, and capacitating women to promote gender responsive water management solutions. The volunteers assigned for this project will assist the project manager in the overall coordination of the project activities, including the following: - Familiarize him/herself with specifics of community development and women’s empowerment in local context in Jordan; - Learn principles of project development and project cycle management, including through the development of volunteer’s own ideas into project components; - Assist in organizing trainings and workshops to local women’s community groups;- Support Gender Water Ambassadors in their advocacy efforts;- Assist in development of ideas for social media campaigns and other online communication supporting the project activities; - Carry out monthly volunteer promotion activities in local communities such as schools, refugee camps, within local youth groups, etc. - Encourage constant learning in the office through field reports and interactive presentationsAll active youth interested in water governance and gender are encouraged to apply for this volunteer opportunity. Youth empowerment and activation is a key to our efforts to make local communities in Jordan more vivid and resilient. We believe in youth’s role as change-makers and wish to capacitate the local youth in Jordan to take an active role in improving the living conditions for themselves and their families. With EVS activities we bring the international experience to the local communities in Jordan and through active intercultural interaction allow the youth themselves to come up with solutions to the most pressing social problems they face. After returning to Finland the volunteer will be able to share her/his learning outcomes and also current information on everyday life and civic activities in Jordan.
