Promoting part-time study programmes in Higher Education

On the road to knowledge based economy, the problem in combining the needs of individuals, labour market and the provision of purposeful study programmes in HE, is one of the most challenging issues. In the partnership we are concentrating on the new target group (part time study programme in whole) in HE and especially on the challenges of creating new part-time study programmes which will acknowledge:- needs of a student; meaning and value of personal competencies of the students (formal-, informal learning, work experience, learning abilities as well as disabilities etc.)- needs of the labour market stakeholders- needs of the educational organisationsGeneral objective of the partnership was to further develop the understanding of the world of part-time study programmes and draft the guidelines for possible approaches for pedagogical models for part-time study programmes. Further, a more practical objective was to produce relevant framework tools for the purpose of planning and implementation of part-time study programmes (typology grid for showing possible development strategies for study programmes). The final report contains of several perspectives of part-time study programmes and their development (student typology, labour market, pedagogic challenges, financing, but also educational providers), which are described in an anecdotic way including the following aspects:- Analytical approach to describe part-time study programmes - Elaboration of a pool of good practices for effective relationships between (part time) study programmes and labour market stakeholders- Provision of transferability of the existing product and service (Examples of existing part-time study programmes in HE)- A collection of guidelines for pedagogical approaches for part-time study programmes in the HE sector
