Projeto RIFIA - Projeto de Reflexão para a Intervenção na Formação e Integração de Adultos
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The RIFIA project – Reflexão para a Intervenção na Formação e Integração de Adultos - is a Portuguese acronym that stands for “Reflection for the Intervention in Adult’s Training and Integration”. Its main objective is the attendance of European training courses by the teaching staff that are directly connected with adult training and education in our school, thus contributing to the improvement of teaching methods and procedures in adult training, as well as the relation with the adult learners, through an intercultural and European integration perspective. It will allow our teaching and management staff to get in touch with new intercultural strategies and methodologies, as well as plurifuctional experiences within the European context, which can ultimately be applied in our school, in and out of the classroom, as well as in the community, in order to improve lifelong learning. Escola Básica dos 2.º e 3.º Ciclos da Torre, was opened in 1993. It is located in the area of Câmara de Lobos in Madeira Island, Portugal. This area is particularly affected by social and economic inequality. A considerable number of its inhabitants have little instruction /academic qualification and so do the majority of our students’ families. A recent study promoted by the European Project EUPARS (PROALV - Grundtvig) concluded that over 50% of our students’ parents only attended school up to the 4th grade. That’s why, in the last few years, our school has been betting in a quality adult training and education. This school year (2014/2015) we have got 847 students, of which 120 are attending the EFA Courses – adult education and training courses. These adult learners are between 18 and 68 years old. The great majority of them are unemployed adults or young adults that weren’t able to enter the labour market yet. Most of them, besides having little qualification and motivational levels, have very disturbing literacy issues and lack social. We have 126 teachers, of which, 13 are currently teaching the EFA adult education and training courses. These adult educators and our school’s direction board will actively participate in the project. Betting in the training of all of those directly linked with adult education in our school is, as far as we’re concerned, promoting a better adult education that aims the full integration of our adult learners as European citizens. That’s the main reason we are submitting this application. As a result, these European mobilities are aiming to contribute to the continuous training of our teaching staff which will directly influence the adult learners in our school with consequent impact in their surrounding community. The project has 3 main vectors: Teacher/trainer training; citizenship / interculturality; new and innovative methodologies in adult teaching, with special focus on ICT. Concerning the preparation of the participants in the project, the Coordinator of the EFA courses will release in advance the program of the different mobilities and will promote meetings between the participants to previously prepare the attendance of the training courses. All documents will be prepared using the latest ICT tools available and previous research will be encouraged. It is our intention to replicate to the other teaching staff / school community, all the knowledge obtained through the attendance of these training courses. This will be done through workshops, training courses, conferences and work meetings. We intend to work together with the EFA teaching teams, our adult learners and the community the topics of citizenship and interculturality through the promotion of several activities. Besides all the communication and cooperation in locco while attending the training courses, there will be a constant exchange of information/documentation between us and the promoters, before and after the courses. We won’t just acquire new knowledge and strategies, we will provide our partners with information and documents about all the work we have been doing /will do with our adult target group and spread word about good practice examples. To sum up, with the project mobility plan we intend to contribute to the training of our school’s EFA courses teaching staff which will definitely have an impact in our adult learners and the community where the come from. We also wish to stimulate the dynamic of the school by betting in the strategic training of members of the direction board, members of intermediate management, and teaching staff as a way of obtaining increasing changing results. We aim for the improvement of adult learning and training by spreading the word.
