P:ANDA / apprentices in commercial occupations demonstrate their mobility by doing a three week internship in a company of the host country. Partners in this project are the Carl Theodor School in Schwetzingen in the Federal Republic of Germany and the ROC Horizon College in Hoorn in the Netherlands. P:ANDA is an exchange project for apprentices in the commercial sector. The exchange of students of Carl Theodor School in Schwetzingen (Germany) ) lasts in each case three weeks. The participants are in their final year of training. Project participants are five apprentices in the 3nd training year for tradesman in wholesale and foreign trade, office administrator, dialogmarketing or industrial sales, the teacher and the companies with competent instructors, the supervising teachers of the Colleges and the local training companies. The project allows students to implement their acquired theoretical knowledge in a practical business. More and more companies are not only working locally but also all around Europe and therefore require employees who have the experience and willingness to move abroad. The project is an important factor for the developement of quality for whole school-education at the Carl-Theodor-School.This internship increases the possibilities of the participants in their future working environment. The usage of the English language, in occupational and private settings increases constantly. Communication in English is encouraged during the internship, since the working language in the exchange companies is English. The aim is to reduce existing inhibitions of students talking in a foreign language and to improve their communication skills. Through intensive study of another country, the socio-cultural competence of students is strengthened. They discover differences in lifestyle between Germans and foreigners, but also commonalities of the societies. Students can test their competence in project work in this exchange with the foreign country especially during local meetings, school visits, events planning and coordination work. Like this their autonomy is encouraged in a special way. Also the exchange of their intercultural competence is promoted, as the stay abroad allows a change of perspective which shows a different life and work environment. In this way the students learn a lot about the country, the people, the training standards and the demands of a job in the host country. They lose their shyness to work in a foreign country or to collaborate with foreign trading partners. At the end of the projekt the students receive the europass, which confirm her competence. The persons, which accompanies the students are able to make experience with the educational standards. They can see the commonalities and the differences between the countries, the schoolsystems and the market requirements. The accompanying teachers get to know the other training standards. They gain experience in terms of the requirements that are imposed on workers in the commercial sector in the European labor market. They can also see the differences and similarities in education and in the school systems. Overall, these insights allow the trainees to prepare targeted to the needs of the future job market.
