Project management as an instrument with respect to labor market for development and assurance of teaching quality in vocational education

„All innovations are projects, but not all projects are innovations“ (Hauschildt). In projects, innovative solutions are developed. The realization will be secured by project management (planning, organizing and controlling the project). In the operational context the importance of project management is increasing. In vocational education project management is rarely taught even though first solutions are existing: Since 2005 correlating teaching concepts for vocational education have been developed and implemented in cooperation with the GPM (German PM Society) in Bremen. A core curriculum “project management”, a training concept for teachers and PM-Guides for the classroom with reference to different domains have been developed. More than 150 teachers have been qualified so far who again impart project management in their disciplines. Learning took place on two levels: On one hand, project management is an item of content and on the other hand, it is a pattern to secure the quality of project teaching. The labor market in this regard was set up twice: The students work on real project orders and therewith get qualified for working in project in their future job. Goal of PIA-project was to spread this concept further on in Germany and implement it in partner countries in different domains.
