Programme international d'échanges de volontaires
Start date: Jun 18, 2014, End date: Jan 17, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The international Youth Exchange Programm allows young european people from different countries to live a commitment experience for 10 months within the French Red Cross. The priority is given to the young motivated people who would not easily have the opportunity to make a commitment within the framework of an international voluntary service for helath, economic or other personnal reasons. When rreturning to their home countriy, they will have the chance to continue their commitment in the local branches of the Red Cross. From september 2014 to July 2015 4 volunteers will be involved in this project. Two of them will be sent by the British Red Cross, the other two by the German Red Cross. One volunteer of each country will be hosted in the IEM/SESSAD, a social and medical facility for disabled children and young people, in Presles en Brie in the Seine et Marne (Ile de France). The other two volunteers will be hosted in the local branch of the French Red Cross in Sable sur Sarthe in Pays de la Loire. The Villepatour Institute for motor skills development (IEM) hosts young boarding and semi-boarding people with mobility disabilities with or without related disorders aged from 12 till over 20. It allows young people to benefit from a care pathway specifically developed according to their disability while attending special classes. A multidisciplinary professional team takes care of them with a permanent will to help them to fully develop and to become independent. The home-care and special education services (SESSAD) targets young disabled pupils and students in ordinary schools / universities. It manages a mobile team composed of medical, paramedical and education staff that intervenes on everyday-life places where young people are, especially on school areas. The main objectives is to gather all people in contact with the young people, including family and school staff in order to build a global and consistent life project. The IEM/SESSAD wishes to host european volunteers in order to offer children, teenagers and students of the institute the opportunity to open themselves to new activities, to ease their access to social and cultural life as well as professionnal. Hosting volunteers allows to develop new activities, to individualize support of young people and to humanize strongly daily relationships. Missions have therefore been designed to reach those objectives. In the IEM volunteers will support physically disabled children in school and in access to social, cultural life. In the SESSAD, volunteers will bring an added-value by supporting physically disabled students in their everyday life. In order to learn more about the Red Cross actions and to integrate themselves in the local community volunteers will have the opportunity to take part in the local Branch's activities once a week. The local branch of Sablé-sur-Sarthe is a dynamic organisation of the French Red Cross. Its action takes place in about 30 small cities in South-West of the Sarthe area. Around 90 volunteers and 3 French "service civique" volunteers act on different activitéies in urgency and first aid or social action. two different activities will be proposed to the EVS volunteers. They will work with a local French "service civique" volunteer: - one volunteer will intervene mainly in schools to introduce the pupils to the first aids, to the road safety, to the prevention of domestic accidents and to the food hygiene. The volunteer will also participate, at least one day a week (depending on training sessions), in the activities of the second-hand clothes and furniture shop of the local branch. - another volunteer will take part to activities aiming to improve social openness and independence of vulnerable people. He/she will thus have the opportunity to directly support the needs of asylum seekers and homeless people living in the social hostel. According to his/her interests and ability, volunteer will also hold workshops such as decoration, cooking, reading, art, games… Both volunteers may also have the opportunity to take part in projects held by an EVS volunteer hosted by the city of Sablé-sur-Sarthe such as European Day or EVS promotion. Those projects aim to promote cultural diversity and international youth mobility. Alla activities could be arranged during the volunteering period according to the volunteer's interests. Volunteers will be encouraged to use their own initiative, and will be provided with financial and methodological support from the French Red Cross.
