Professional Learning In Practice
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project aims to provide an opportunity to Early years Trainers/educators in the VET and community sector to experience childcare training and practice in an European context. As a learning organization, internationalization is a key strategic objective for ECI, building on previous partnerships and extending our professional networks. ECI is keen to build strategic alliances which in particular support and build on our knowledge in the field of vocational education, training and early years education. In addition, to foster greater mobility of trainers and to support them in developing a sense of European citizenship and identity. A key objective for ECI is to innovate and improve the quality of professional learning programmes that we provide for early years trainers. Each cohort of 15 VET /community trainers will represent a national geographical spread. The trainers will be engaged in the delivery of accredited training for the early years sector and levels of experience will vary. As childcare trainers tend to work in isolation and often without opportunity for continuous professional learning this study visit should offer a range of pedagogical/ andragogical and training experiences to enhance their work in the VET sector thereby improving childcare practice on the ground. In addition to assist connecting theory to practice. The on-site visits will allow the trainers to observe document this approach using photographs, audio recordings and notes. Also by job shadowing the participants can learn first hand from the experts. Through the on-site visits, the trainers will see at first hand how policy is implemented into practice. They will then use this learning in their professional practice with students and other trainers. These experiences will enhance their professionalism and offer increased employment opportunities. (Europe 2020) (Bruges Communique 2011- 2020) This long term strategy will improve quality experiences for children, support the acquisition of knowledge by the childcare practitioner and up-skill childcare professionals in the work environment.
