Professional Economic Training Abroad
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Profile of the participants, project background The target group of this project at the Rudolf-Rempel Business College Bielefeld (RRB) were full-time trainees of the vocational college leading to a general university entrance qualification focussing on Economics, Europe and Languages. The obligatory internship is a part of this training. The multilateral Comeniusproject Eurobacdiploma, coordinated by the RRB, developed a certificate of excellence named "European Business Baccalaureate Diploma" ("EBBD") with 8 different elements harmonised throughout Europe. One of these elements is the work placement abroad. Project objectives The learners gained practical work experience in a company abroad, developed professional and intercultural competence and improved their foreign language skills. The acquired competence enhanced their employability in international companies as well as their mobility and enabled them to European, entrepreneurial thinking. The participants participated actively in their life, working and learning environment in a European country and they reinforced their European identity. The efficiency and quality, the Europe-wide transparency and recognition of the placement abroad of this training was increased by testing the use of various ECVET elements developed in the "EBBD" project and by using the instruments / certificates Euro Pass mobility, the Euro pass CV and the Euro Language Passport . The partners involved further developed their quality standards in the context of the project objectives, exploited synergies and thereby increased their competitiveness and their project financing options. Number of participants The total number of participants over the 24-month project period was 32 learners. The internships were realised as a 4-week activity in a company in a partner's country (MT, IE, AT, UK, TR). The internship period was firmly anchored in the annual agenda of the commercial college. In 2015 18 learners and in 2016 14 learners at any one time completed the internship (3 weeks in school time and the first week of their Easter Holidays = 4 weeks + Exit and entry days). Description of activities and procedures for project implementation Before start of the project the RRB concluded partners partnership agreements in which, inter alia, Learning areas / competencies and fields of action and the procedures for evaluation, documentation, validation and recognition were agreed. After the selection of applicants these went through an organizational, educational, cultural, and task-related preparation. The learning agreement was concluded. Concrete learning outcomes/competences were formulated. At the end of the internship, the results were evaluated with an appraisal form (criteria-based interview) by the mentor and the participant. After returning the internship was reflected by the participants. Using assessment results the Euro pass mobility was issued. The trainees wrote their professional thesis and created their Euro Language Passport. The project was evaluated by the participants and accompanying partners during the project and at its end and was disseminated. Description of the expected results, effects and long-term benefits The project enhanced the employability of the trainees within Europe, enabled them to study at a European university and often encouraged them to move to different European countries. This effect was supported by obtaining the instruments recognized throughout Europe such as Euro pass CV, Europass Mobility Euro & Euro Language Passport. The participants acted internationally, for them Europe grew together. The European identity of many trainees was strengthened. The project increased the attractiveness and quality of training at RRB. By this project also participants from less financially strong families were able to do internships; other sponsors can possibly be gained in the future through effective dissemination of the project. The companies get applicants with readiness for mobility, extensive soft skills and economic expertise who can move around safely on the floor of international economic issues. The internship company opened themselves through the internship for employees from a pan-European labour market and could use their cultural and national backgrounds to expand their business into other European countries. By the close cooperation of the international partners in the project an exchange, transfer and evaluation of knowledge, methods and techniques was created. Synergy effects arose for the institutions. An interested public was informed by disseminating the project. The effect was the development of a culture of experience exchange and communication between the groups involved with each other about the project contents and objectives, developing and adapting themselves to the current social, political and economic circumstances.
