The project "Professional development of English teachers at primary level in Mersrags Secondary School- the cape of new opportunities for the whole school will provide the growth, development of wealth and intelligence in Mersrags community where authorities are open- minded for new ideas, knowledge and skills, because their motto refers to the statement of M. Scott Peck: "Share our similarities, celebrate our differences." The project will motivate teachers to carry out longterm dreams and plans as well as continue educating themselves in the future.The aim of the project is to develop the knowledge, learn new skills of teachers in Mersrags Secondary school and then use them daily in the teaching process, providing equal education for students with special needs, promoting social inclusion and supporting settlement and education for asylum seekers if necessary in the future. Furthermore, the project will enable to modernize classrooms at the primary level and attract youngsters interest to start learning in the 1 st grade at Mersrags Secondary School, providing them with qualitative facilities and professional pedagogues. Secondly, the project will give the opportunity to meet other teachers from the UK and Europe and exchange ideas and experience, giving also clear image of the educational system of the UK and Europe. Lastly, the participants of the courses will share their knowledge, practical materials and new experience in their school, community, nearest schools, Latvia, on the Internet and with their partners in Hvalso school in Denmark by making workshops and seminars.The objectives of the project are to increase the teaching quality in English at the primary level, to train new skills using IT in teaching English and other subjects, to understand and implement effective teaching and learning of students with special needs, providing their inclusion in the general educational institution, also increase the English knowledge of teachers which can be used for school purposes. It means, that there are planned following courses for 4 teachers of Mersrags Secondary School in the duration of the project: "One week course for teachers of English at primary level ages 3-11," "One week course for European teachers of using technology for teaching their subjects," "Two week course for teachers of English to pupils with special needs," and "One week course English for European Educators." During the courses will be achieved the aim and objectives of the project which are mentioned above and refer to the development plan of Mersrags Secondary School.The knowledge and practical skills, methods and materials will be realized in Mersrags Secondary School by organizing and practicing effective English teaching and learning process, using IT for all students, also students with special needs. The didactic materials will be available in the school`s library, will be shown at the nearest schools and the school in Hvalso in Denmark. For a long time period the knowledge, skills and experience will motivate students to learn English, to continue studying at Mersrags Secondary School, will encourage to invest their knowledge in the development of Mersrags community and raise their self- esteem, as a result, it will increase their life quality because they will be able to communicate with foreigners in English.If refugees asked for asylum in Mersrags community in the nearest future, the staff of Mersrags Secondary School could provide the help for studying the curriculum in English.Taking into account the fact that Mersrags Secondary School has never been supported by Erasmus+ fund, this project would encourage and motivate teachers to apply for further projects to change the life in Mersrags community by thinking broadly.
