Praktikum International 2016/2017
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

For several years Berufskolleg Meschede, a vocational training college in Meschede, has offered young students the opportunity to develop intercultural skills by doing a work placement abroad. A three-week or four-week program was developed in cooperation with the ADC College in London, the SWAN Training Institute in Dublin and the AIP Language School in Valencia. The programs include a one-week language course followed by a two- or three-week work placement in a partner company in London, Dublin or Valencia. Up to 90 students can take part in the programs. At Berufskolleg Meschede these students either attend a two-year, full-time commercial course or they come to college once or twice a week for the theoretical part of their training as an industrial management assistant or management assistant in wholesale and foreign trade. The promotion of European mobility and the exchange of job-relevant language skills are objectives of the mobility organisation. With this project Berufskolleg Meschede prepares its students for an increasingly international working environment. It also promotes the personal development of the young people and strengthens their European values such as acceptance and integration. The aim of the project is to give the participants confidence in their abilities, to promote mobility across national borders, break down language barriers and to get professional practical knowledge. Regarding an increasingly integrated Europe and a growing number of international companies in the region, the trainees will be well-qualified for the challenges of the national and international labor markets. Showing mobility within Europa also makes students more interesting as future employees and is appreciated by training companies. The training companies benefit from the work placements, too. On the one hand they get interculturally and linguistically competent staff. On the other hand they score in the competition for young professionals by offering the option of a stay abroad as part of their training. For Berufskolleg Meschede the above-mentioned programs are another step to raise the school's profile and a further step on its way to become “Europaschule”, a school with a strong European profile. As the number of possible students will decrease due to the demographic development in the countryside, the cooperation of all participating parties also provides an opportunity for Berufskolleg Meschede to remain attractive for future students.
