Praktika von Studierenden des AWO Berufskollegs, Bielefeld, in schwedischen Kindertageseinrichtungen
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

In this project ten students of AWO Berufskolleg, Bielefeld, Germany, do a three-week practical training in Swedish preschools or primary schools on the island of Lidingö near Stockholm. The students aim to be certified preschool teachers at their home college. Students who do a full-time course can participate, but also students who do their training on a part-time basis. Two teachers of AWO Berufskolleg organise and accompany the project; in Sweden two mentors support the students during their stay. A Swedish language course, which includes intercultural competencies, is provided as part of the preparation. The aim of the project is that students observe educational processes in the Swedish institutions they stay with. They should experience how these processes are perceived, encouraged and accompanied. The students recognise how theoretical and methodical models on the one hand and the educational practice on the other hand are interconnected. Moreover they experience cultural ways of educational ideas and they pass this experience on to other students after returning. Regarding their training students are to experience the value of educational work in the Swedish institutions. Generally speaking they get to know cultural differences in early childhood education and they relate this knowledge to prior experiences they have gained. Furthermore they get to know English as a "lingua franca" to communicate with early childhood teachers in the institutions. Since they have only little language skills in the language of the host country, they will be sensitized for the topic of second language acquisition.
