Prague International Film Festival - Febiofest

The 24rd PIFF - Febiofest 2017 will take place, at the end of March, in its main venue at Cinestar Andel, Prague and will be followed up by the Regional Echoes in the 14 biggest Czech cities. As an audience oriented global festival, it will try to present the audience with the most interesting films from all over the world, from the last year, with a strong focus on European cinema. As it does every year, the Festival will also try to invite as many filmmakers as possible in order to provide meetings with the audience after the screenings. We plan to keep both competitions - NEW EUROPE, dedicated to first and second films by European directors and YOU ARE THE FILMMAKER, for short films created on mobile phones and tablets by non-professional filmmakers with the objective of increasing film literacy, especially among young people. In 2016 we established a third competition AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL FEBIOFEST AWARD dedicated to films with the topic of human rights. We plan to include FOCUS BELGIUM section into the 2017 program. Part of this focus should be also a panel on co-producing with the Czech Republic. Another European country in focus could again be one from the Balkan region, preferably Croatia (after a focus on Macedonia in 2016). We also plan to continue with all additional activities, including master classes and workshops with our guests for students of art schools (Peter Morgan for screenwriters in 2016, Jerome Krabbé for actors in 2015 or Sylvain Chomet for students of animation in 2014), workshop for the finalists of the YOU ARE THE FILMMAKER competition, screenings in other - also multifunctional spaces, and satellite events. We also want to continue the institution of charity partnership established in 2014 (in 2016 it was the organization Life 90). We plan to keep also the Culinary Cinema section (organized in co-operation with the Berlinale), promoting higher and healthy food culture and reach another audience segment.
