PRACTICAL TOOLS FOR NONVIOLENT COMMUNITY ACTIONS
Start date: Mar 1, 2013,

Many challenges exist in European societies which are subject to societal negotiation processes and result in societal conflicts and in diverse forms of violence such as ethnical tensions, structural discrimination of minorities and religious value-based conflicts.Additionally, in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus territorial conflicts can be found resulting in ethnical tensions between the conflicting populations and in many cases in segregation from each other..Hence, the promoters will implement a youth exchange that allows its participants to analyse societal conflicts and to reflect on grass-root activities led by young people to lower existing tensions and to approach these conflicts with peaceful means. The main themes of the youth exchange “Practical Tools for Nonviolent Community Actions” are anti-discrimination and art and culture. By this, the project combines education for peace based on the principles of non-discrimination, tolerance and nonviolence with the use of interactive, creative and artistic theatre methods. The specific objectives of the project reflect the priorities of the YiA Programme as follows:- To introduce nonviolent conflict transformation as a peace-building approach to young people to enhance competences of intercultural learning and tolerance and promoting non-violence as a European value- To analyse community conflicts in Europe and to design grass-root youth based responds to conflicts fostering active citizenship and participation of young people- To empower young people to use their creativity and to become agents for peaceful change in their community, country and Europe fosters a sense of responsibility for common European challenges, social justice and diversity in EuropeThe project will be organized for 32 young people from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Georgia, Slovakia, Greece, Turkey and Italy. The Academy for Peace and Development will coordinate and host the project in Kobuleti, Georgia, from 15-25 June 2013.
