Practical Hairdressing

Practical Hairdressing course enabling students from City College Brighton and Hove to take part in a mobility to Kuben School Norway, building on an existing partnership with the school which bought students from Kuben to City College in 2015, with a second group planned to Brighton in 2016. Staff development and sharing of best practice in the areas of International mobility, student management and mediation and subject specific knowledge.Course Aims:To provide an opportunity for students to develop hairdressing skills enhancing their employability and career prospects. To experience of Norwegian culture and everyday life, to encourage students to learn a new language and raise awareness of the wider European project. To experience similarities and differences in English and Norwegian hairdressing technniques. To improve students personal abilities and self-esteem by living (semi) dependently in a new environment. To gain knowledge and share best practice relating to managing student attendance and mediation techniques.Profile of Participants:Selected will be from Level 3 Hairdressing course, students aged16-18 year from the Greater Brighton area. Students will have been studying at City College for 18 months having completed a Level 2 Hairdressing qualification the year before. They will have good commercial practical skills for cutting colouring and styling hair. A maximum of 6 students will participate in this activity. Fashion techniques for colouringCutting – To extend cutting knowledge for graduating, layering, disconnection. Fashion techniques for cuttingStudents to be given certificates of attendance and course reportsCultural Activities:To include visit to reputable Hair Salons in OsloGuided tour of local main shopping areas and sights of OsloStudents to be advised of best places to to shop, eat out and enjoy nightlifeResults, Impact and longer term benefits:Raised awareness of different cultures amongst both students and staff.Raised awareness of the European project across both institutions.Increase employability of participating students.Empowering students and raising their self-esteem, through exposing them to new culture and experience and through the dissemination activities upon return to CCBH.Developing best practice around limiting student drop-out and mediation.Possibility to build links to offer employment opportunities and work experience.
