Pour une approche professionnelle européenne des services à la personne et vente en Allemagne ou Royaume-Uni, au service de l'insertion des lycéens issus de Bac Pro SAPAT et CAP SMR
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Lycée Schattenmann situated in Bouxwiller (Alsace 67) is a vocational high School in the area of services to people and territory under contract with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. The school wants to give the opportunity to students enrolled in Bac pro "Services aux Personnes et aux Territoires" (SAPAT) equivalent to BTEC National and CAPA "Services en Milieu Rural" (SMR) equivalent to NQC, to have a work placement abroad (respectively 3 and 2 weeks). Most of Bac pro students plan to pass a competitive examination in health and social assistance, or pursue short studies as HND Animation and Development of Rural Territories for example As students of CAPA, with a double dominant sales and service people, the primary objective is the integration in the professional world (nursing homes, hospitals, small shops, supermarkets, etc..). A number of students, however, are designed to carry out studies in first year Bac Pro. The knowledge of a foreign language is therefore one of the success factors. The school has chosen to send all students abroad. However, the frames of references plan to learn only one foreign language in professional training. Through our close location to the German border, we offer our students a choice of two foreign languages, either English or German (2 hours per week). Therefore, in each class, students will do their work placement either in northern Germany or in the United Kingdom. As the majority of students are underage a teacher will be present there during the whole stay to do the work placement monitoring of the students. I. Use of English in Britain: Our 34 Bac Pro SAPAT students and 15 CAP students will travel to Plymouth to discover the business world there: some will be active in Charity Shops, others in clothing stores and also some will work in small food shops. After the work placement, they will not only visit the city of Plymouth and the Barbican but also the surroundings with the Dartmoor National Park or Exeter... The accommodation will be in host families to improve the language and immerse themselves in the daily life of an English family. The workplacement and the accommodation are chosen after proposal from the partner Tellus. II. The services sector in Northern Germany A) The 33 students enrolled in Bac Pro SAPAT will do their work placement in Osterholz-Scharmbeck north of Bremen. They will work either in kindergartens, hospitals or even childcare for disabled children. They will also visit Hamburg, Bremen, Bremerhaven, and Cuxhaven during their free time. They will be accommodated in a youth hostel in the city of Worpswede. A partnership with the “Berufsbildende Schule” BBS is a school with 2,200 students in initial training and learning, it has the label Europaschule (European school) and Unesco Schule. The school is responsible for finding work placements depending on the wishes of the Alsatian students. B) The 15 CAPA SMR students will go to Schwerin in the Land of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to work for two weeks in the hotel, catering, personal services or sales industry. They can visit Hamburg and Rostock on the Baltic coast, Lübeck... Their accommodation will be self-catering in the house belonging to the partner institution. A partnership with the Schweriner Bildungswerkstatt It is a centre for vocational education and training which is aimed at a diverse audience: businesses, job seekers, dropouts, and people with specific needs. Their jurisdiction encompasses many crafts and especially on the hotel industry, catering and home economics. Their extensive knowledge of the field will help find suitable work placement for the CAPA SMR students. III. Get an opening to Europe These work placements are made possible thanks to funding from the European Union through the Erasmus + project. There are also regional financing, actions made by students and the involvement of the families. Beyond the language courses a specific preparation is provided in the courses by teachers. The objectives of these courses abroad are multiple: the trainees do not only use a foreign language in immersion, but they can also understand the customs of the region or even approach the reality of the professional world of another country. No doubt this experience will be a capital gain on their resume when seeking future employment, and encourage them, perhaps, to work one day in another European country. This experience also allows the school to establish its reputation among regional or national partners.
