Our school, le Lycée Privé Professionnel Saint-Michel in Blanquefort located in the south west of France in the Medoc area in the north of Bordeaux, is a vocational school that receives around 520 students mentored by 70 members of staff in the sectors of Food, Reception and Selling, Social and Health to prepare vocational qualifications of different levels (certificates of vocational aptitude, vocational Baccalauréat and additional specializations). We also have a class of 3ème and a specific unit of inclusive education for mentally disabled teenagers. Our school is of human scale which facilitates individual education and teaching plans that allows each of our students to take an active role in shaping their own training. Our high quality education and our projects and activities aim at helping students to reconcile them with school enabling them to find a sense in learning, to develop intellectual curiosity, to instill a taste for success and therefore a better self-image and self-esteem. We are working each day at the aim that our school is a place where everyone, pupil and adult, feels comfortable and so that everyone understands the essential role they have to play. In this context, our European projects do need to be part of the implementation of our school project. We plan to send 35 students in the final year of Baccalauréat Professionnel in Catering, Restaurant Servicing and Reception and Selling in Norway, Spain and the Republic of Ireland for 5 weeks each year for the 2 following years The 2 first days the students will be proposed cultural activities and the discovery of their daily environment and the next 5 weeks they will be placed in restaurants and service organizations. They will be then able to use English or Spanish in real situation and discover new ways to practice their future job. This experience will foster their professional skills and their employability in Europe. As for their personal future, the students will find their own independence, autonomy, self-confidence and open-mindedness which compose their ability to build their adulthood. Also, 12 members of staff will benefit from job shadowing or training at the same places. The members of staff will aim at discovering their job on a European background and thus giving an enriching stimulus to their job. For any participant, this project will be a way to have a very clear idea of what being a responsible European citizen today involves in a Europe in which democracies will benefit from a better knowledge of each other. It will promote democratic values, social cohesion, active citizenship and intercultural dialogue.
