Portfolio of Integration
Start date: Nov 1, 2011,

During the last years, given the high rate of migration among EU and between EU and third countries, school systems have been trying to adapt to managing multicultural classes, offering teacher intercultural training and a range of intercultural tools (especially focusing on welcoming phase). Nevertheless we still lack specific activities and tools focusing on students observation and monitoring, especially in secondary education, an important phase of the teaching job because gives the possibility of prompt intervention in case indicators are negative and to support students during the choice of their future career (orientation phase, critical for successful migrants integration in professional path and therefore for their social integration ). Observation tools allows to:- evaluate the migrants students integration in the class;- the class social environment;- the school performance obtained by migrant students;- the students skills and talents in order to support them in the orientation phase at the end of secondary school. The project offers the updating and adaptation of a students observation instrument, the Book of Integration, designed by Oxfam Italia research team. This tool will be adapted to different European contexts, updated in collaboration with at least 60 teachers (of 4 different European countries) and tested with at least 1200 students. General objectives: to strengthen the intercultural competences of secondary school teachers in observation and didactics, adapting and developing new teaching methodologies and tools in observation of migrants students’ integration and class cohesion. Main Outputs: Book of Integration updated and translated in English, Italian, Polish, Greek and Turkey. Teachers training course, with cooperative learning methodology , structured and translated in the same languages as well as the Course Handbook Guidelines for trainers and trainees.
