Poronin ON THE WAY
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

“Poronin ON THE WAY” project is an international youth exchange for young people between 18 and 26 years old. The project will be attended by 4 different countries of the European Union: Croatia, Romania, Italy and Poland. Each country will invite 6 participants including one leader per country. Additionally there will be one extra leader from Poland, so in total it will be 25 people and all together we will create a working group for our meeting. The project will take place in May 2016 around Polish Tatras, in the village - Poronin. The topic of this project is a road users safety issue, especially the least protected – pedestrians. Youth recognized that the most effective way to raise awareness in this matter is to promote appropriate behavior on the road from an early age. Therefore this is the project created by youth and dedicated to the youth. The main activities will include mainly workshops. Workshops will take place in three configurations: among participants; between participants and pupils of the local school (aged of 7-15 years); and at the end all youths will share methods, that they had worked out, with the local community at a public event.Undertaken activities will be used to discuss issues of road safety, finding real solutions to the problems in this matter, to the elaboration of appropriate methods and tools, and finally spreading the idea of being self-aware pedestrian on the road.Additional support in promoting proper behavior will be given by institutions such as the Police, Volunteer Firefighter Department and Mountain Volunteer Search and Rescue representatives. With participants of the exchange, local youth and senior citizens they will create simulations of dangerous situations and show how we should react in such cases.Cooperation of participants with local youth will be based on the principle of synergy that ensures tangible benefits to both side. It will develop in young people a valuable ability to learn from each other, stimulate pro-social initiatives, strengthen intercultural dialogue. Participants will engage in the educational process, raise the level of soft skills, will develop management skills, highly appreciated by potential employers. Local youth will develop cultural curiosity, acquire invaluable experience on international level, gain confidence, see the wide range of opportunities for personal development. It is very important because access to information in such small town is not equal with the one offered in urban areas.Audiovisual materials created during the project, including road safety handbook (translated into English and languages of the participants) as well as short videos will be used by partner organizations in their work with youth at the local level. Thanks to this subject matter of this exchange will be continued and developed in subsequent initiatives, which will make its effects addressed directly to the target groups. The local community invited to the project will know more about the issues and interests of young people, making the exchange significantly contributive to the development of knowledge about youth policy. "Poronin ON THE WAY" actually will serve not only to the parties involved, but especially the wider community. Successive promotion of prosocial behaviors will strengthen the activation of citizens and social integration. Such actions will awaken among young people and local communities a sense of responsibility and the impact on the surrounding reality. Above all, it will raise the level of awareness of safe behavior on the road.
