Poppintree Youth Project - Crossing Borders with Hip Hop and Rap PART TWO
Start date: Aug 1, 2013,

Crossing Borders with Hip Hop and Rap PART TWO is the second part of a bilateral youth exchange between Ireland and the Netherlands. This time, the young rappers, singers and beat makers will meet each other in a suburb of Dublin, Ballymun for an eight day exchange programme of culture, music and creating deeper connections. Ten young talented female and male rappers from Ballymun, Dublin will rejoin 10 peers from Nijmegen at the end of October 2013. The programme and expectations are stepped up a gear since the first exchange during July 2013. The young people have already created music together, so now is the time to complete the picture visually, making music videos of their songs, using Ballymun and Dublin as an inspiration and a backdrop. Professionals from the Dublin rap scene and film makers will be enlisted to mentor the young people, putting their ideas onto film and prepare them for a stage performance at Ballymun's premier Halloween festival Otherworld. This exchange is a collaboration between Poppintree Youth Project, New Arts Nijmegen and promoter axis Arts Centre. All partners have their individual strengths combining youth work with (urban) arts professionalism, meaning the young people involved will get the best support and guidance on a personal development and artistic level. Hip Hop and Rap as this exchange's theme is universal, it is a language all the young people speak and it is what bonds them together, regardless of their individual and cultural differences. This exchange will promote overcoming those differences, finding a common ground and creating respect for each other and their artistic talent.
