Policy Making in the European Union
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Feb 28, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

In Chile, one scarcely encounters academic programs that consider and submit to analysis the EU as an international actor, its role in global governance and the driving forces that reshape the international system. In this context, the UDP seeks to provide a European Module for its Master on Politics and Government by offering one annual course during the two semesters of the year (www.postgradosudp.cl). The course is aimed at introducing Political Science students to the evolution of the EU from its phase as an entity marked by economic regional integration to its role today as an international actor. The course will be divided into two modules: 1) European institution-building, politics and actors, and 2) the external dimension of the EU in the world, including international security, cooperation, and trade policy with non-European countries. This course will be the only one in Chile offered to graduated students with a profile on Political Science, Public Administration, Journalism, and Sociology. It will be offered principally to the students of the Master on Politics and Government as part of elective courses of the second year of the Program. Nevertheless, it will also be available to students from different disciplines (Law, Sociology, History, Education, Journalism, etc.) and different academic seniority. In this sense, this course also aims to present the EU to students who are not familiarized with its development and goals and provide them with a background that would contribute to career development in a number of fields (including work in government, international organizations, business and the media).
