Pogranicze, Wielokulturowość, Różnorodność - poznaję, rozumiem, działam.
Start date: Dec 31, 2015, End date: Dec 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Evangelical Lutheran Secondary School in Cieszyn, Poland is located far away from major centres, which limits the availibility to culture and education to students as well as teachers. As a result, the youth studying in our school in comparison with the youth from larger cities show some characteristics of reserve, which reduces their effectiveness in the global labour market. That is why the aim of the project is to guarantee our students a high level of competency to ensure them equal opportunities in the future. We can achieve that, by exposing them to well-qualified, open-minded, innovative teachers, who find continual, professional development essential. The use of innovative methods will also increase the students' motivation to learn, not just one but also a second and the third target language, thus ultimately enhancing their chances on the labour market. There is also an important characteristic distinguishing us from other areas, namely, the fact that our town lies on a Polish Czech border, which results in a mixture of different cultures, traditions and religions. The sense of identity with such a region, gives both to teachers and students the insight into European community. Exposure to foreign languages, their country of origin and their inhabitants enables the breakdown of stereotypes in regard of certain countries and further development of positive patterns and associations . The main objective of the project "The Borderland, Multiculturalism, Variety - I learn, I understand, I act" is to make the youth and teachers sensitive to multiculturalism with regard to culture, language, religion and promote the idea of interculturalism both by teaching and studying foreign languages, History, Polish language, culture and art. Another aim is to improve professional qualifications of the teachers of above mentioned subjects. Participation in the project was declaired by seven teachers: four teachers of modern languages - German, French, Spanish and English, one Polish teacher, History teacher and Physics teacher. Their participation in the project allow them to take part in language courses, seminars, trainings, conferences and workshops on various topics concerning teaching methods and life and culture of some European countries. The above mentioned activities will allow the praticipants of the project to improve their language skills, and familiarise them with the latest methological and substantive issues. These projects will also significantly enhance the personal intercultural awareness of the teaching language country. Knowledge and application of new teaching methods presented in the project will increase attractiveness of our classes in designated areas such as languages and culture. The participants will have an opportunity to exchange educational experiences with other teachers from abroad. In summary, participation in this project will increase the attractiveness of lessons through an innovative approach to teaching methods. It will help the teachers enrich and update intercultural issues, make them more sensitive to different cultures and traditions. Students will gain the knowledge about the country of language origin, its culture and history. The project further offers an extension of online educational courses on the platform of the school.
