Plungės jaunimas - ne problema, o sprendimas
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Nov 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project "Youth of Plunge – a solution, not a problem” is designed to address the problems of youth in Plunge town, as well as to involve young people to solve those problems. The initiators of the project - 5 active young people from the Plunge Youth Center - will bring together 50 young people who will engage in learning activities and dialogue with the city's politicians. Young people will seek to: 1. Get new, more convenient to reach facilities for the Youth Center and to develop a plan for maintaining them; 2. Create an outdoor space for youth next to the new premises of Youth Center; 3. Attract more young people to the Youth Center; 4. Promote youth initiatives and the emergence of new youth organizations involving young people to active community life. The project will be launched during European Youth Week (EYW) by holding a conference “Young people in labour market and in community life of Plunge region”. The conference will cover such topics as opportunities and challenges of young people in labour market, social life of young people, organization of extracurricular activities at schools and municipality institutions and etc. During EYW a youth fair called “Youth Engine” will be organized to present various local NGOs, Eurodesk summer mobility programme and Erasmus+. Moreover, youth fair visitors will have a chance to test their knowledge on European Union by playing board game “Europa”. Bicycle fans will be invited to celebrate the Day of Europe on a bicycle joining “The healthiest critical mass of Plunge”. During the conference the project will be presented to over 150 young people. 50 of them (including 20 with fewer opportunities) will be selected to participate in further project activities. Young people will be divided into 5 teams: organizational, fundraising, negotiation, media and support. Teams will not only meet with the politicians, but also will try to attract public attention on the problems of youth, the ongoing project activities, dialogue with politicians and the results achieved. Project participants will seek to involve other members of the community to some of the project activities (e.g. building youth space, renovating Youth Center). During the project youth training, meetings with decision-makers and public actions will take place. The application of non-formal educational methods (teamwork, mentoring, discussion) will ensure gradual delegation of responsibility to young people. In the final stage of the project a youth camp will be organized. Project participants and policy makers will reflect on project activities, cooperation experiences, the results achieved. Further cooperation also will be discussed. An NGO expert will be invited to tell young people about informal youth initiatives and building new organizations. Publicity and dissemination will be implemented through regional newspapers and regional radio. Local community will be involved through public events and various social actions in the town. All information will be posted online to Plunge Youth Centre website, on Facebook and YouTube. The project will not only help to solve real problems of local youth but it will also increase young people's awareness, participation skills, will improve understanding between decision-makers and young people and will lay the foundation for long-term cooperation between politicians and youth in Plunge.
