During the school year of 2011-2012 primary school “The Nessevliet started English education from group 1. That same school year all the teachers at “The Nessevliet” followed a course in Total Physical Response, early English education and classroom English. All the teachers also worked on improving their individual language skills. Most of the teachers followed the language course from Pelgrim in CanterburyIn four years our school wants to achieve the following goals:- every pupil, in their own capabilities, should be able to attend bilingual secondary education;- Beside English lessons (at least one hour a week) their will be English lessons given in English in the higher grades(Clill) (at least one hour a week).- The school has started a internationalization procedure.To achieve the goals above, all the teacher will attend the following course: Methodology & language for primary teacher through Pelgrim course. The course should provide the teachers with more self-confidence towards teaching in English. It will also improve their individual language skills and knowledge about early English education. Some of the teachers follows the second course.To monitor the quality of the given lessons. “The Nessevliet ” will have their pupils take an Cambridge English test at the end of group 8 (6th grade). To guarantee the early English principles the English lessons have been included in the class schedule and core objectives will be followed by using a method.New colleagues have to prove their individual English teaching skills by either taking an Classroom English course, or provide other evidence to prove their level is the same level as the current teachers at “The Nessevliet”.
