Our project will begin in Suruc district of Sanliurfa on March 1, 2015 and will continue until July 1, 2015. Activities of the project will take place between March 20, 2015 to March 29, 2015 and be formed by 34 young people from 6 different countries.
The project is going to take place in Suruc, - a town in the province of Sanliurfa, which has a unique natural landscape. Our project aimed to encourage and inspire the young people from different countries to actively participate in the efforts for a peaceful and sustainable resolution to the active participation of young people to support EU policy making on peace, and also to raise awareness about peace for all human based on human rights that accompanying the EU citizenship. The activities will continue with implementing a well-orchestrated set of activities to actively engage youth in peace building. By developing and strengthening the necessary substructures, the participants will advocate for a range of issues for improving their schools, communities and their locals. Another major initiative will be promoting peace dialogues and other forms of restorative justice.
The aim of the activities is to develop young people's and local's awareness about peaceful life by using remarkable activities and to bring different viewpoints on justice, peace and human rights that accompanying the EU citizenship. Within the context of the project, participants will have the opportunity to discuss and creatively examine a wide variety of social and environmental issues. Activities included discussion groups, training workshops and fieldtrips, focusing on matters such as social justice (ie. gender stereotypes, multiculturalism and human rights), environmental sustainability, education, and peaceful conflict management and also how these can be achieved in Suruc, Urfa locally and also in their own countries/regions. Among other matters, the participants will discuss how to achieve a better understanding between the different communities in relation to the historical events in Suruc and the region locally over the last half century. Between learning sessions, participants relaxed together over meals and social activities, building new friendships and bonds. We will use non-formal and informal teaching methods to encourage them to being active in the project.
The main theme of the project is exploring and practicing ideas of conflict resolution, multiculturalism and team building. Participants will take part in a diverse range of activities which provided them with peace tools such as effective communication, empathy and mediation. With continuous encouragement to broaden their perspectives, participants will gain awareness of different approaches to conflict such as win-win, reaction control and understanding the feelings and needs behind disagreement. Throughout the project participants will take part in sports activities ranging from football, dance and yoga. Also, cultural nights, trips to the surrounding area and various workshops are also included in the program of the project's activities in the duration of 10 days. The operating language of the project will be English.
